Many people have recently started learning about the amazing benefits of healing and fighting infections with colloidal silver.

But the broad-spectrum antimicrobial qualities of colloidal silver solutions have been observed since the late 1800s, when the substance was first produced.

The most prestigious medical proclamation belongs to biologist Henry Crookes in 1910, 111 years ago. It has not been surpassed by any other medical product. Not to this day.

Here’s a quick overview of what medical and clinical research experts were saying about colloidal silver over 100 years ago …

In 1910, biologist Henry Crookes examined and documented the germicidal action of colloidal silver in a way that has been widely disseminated and recognized in the scientific world, and he is the most cited author, even today. His book “Colloidal Preparations of Silver in Pharmacies”, published by the British Medical Journal, Feb.1923, contains a very thorough summary of both the silver salts used in medicine up to that date and colloidal solutions, thus providing non-invasive substitutes to some salts which can be even harsh to the human body. His publications contain recipes and methods of silver therapy in various forms: Collargol, Protargol, Electrargol, Lunasol, Argyrol, Itrol, Arcol, Actol, Argonine, Argintamine, Largina, etc. In the 1800s, salts of sulphur, zinc, potassium, copper and especially silver were used for antibacterial purposes in the form of collyrium, internally, intravenously or topically. Basically, through his research, the biologist Henry Crookes successfully replaced the vast majority of silver salts with pure silver hydrosol – colloidal silver, in various concentrations, depending on the original recipe and method of use. Most silver salts and methods of obtaining colloidal silver can be found in many pharmacopoeias around the world.

He made a statement in 1910 that stunned the entire medical world:

“I don’t know of any microbe that is not killed by colloidal silver in laboratory experiments within six minutes“.

Full text: ‘Some metals, when in a colloidal state, have an extremely germicidal action and are quite harmless to human beings […] can be applied in a much more concentrated form and with better results. Bronchial tuberculosis, Staphylococcus pyogenes, various streptococci and other pathogenic organisms are killed in three to four minutes. In fact, no microbe is known not to be killed by this silver colloid in my laboratory experiments in six minutes, the concentration [of silver used] does not exceed twenty-five parts per million (25ppm)”.

And he also states, according to the August 1920 edition of The National Druggist, Vol. 50, page 388:

“Colloidal silver is a potent destroyer of toxins of bacterial origin […] Experiments on rabbits show that colloidal silver renders the subject immune to the effects of large amounts of tetanus or diphtheria serum.

[…] Colloidal silver has proven its value in combating the following ailments, among others – tonsillitis, gongorrheal conjunctivitis, spring catarrh, pustular eczema of the scalp, septic ulcers of the feet, boils, chronic cystitis, worms, soft tissue sores.

But we don’t need to extend the list of colloidal silver’s good works. It is enough that it is at present the most used in medicine of all soils (hydrosols n.t.).”

There are scientific and historical dates of the use of colloidal silver before Henry Crookes, such as that of Dr. Reynold Webb Wilcox, M.D., in the journal “New England Medical Monthly and Prescription“, in the article entitled “Antiseptics for Internal Use“:

“Colloidal silver has a very beneficial influence and often produces rapid healing in early and chronic sepsis and furunculosis, when no secondary changes have occurred in the vital organs.”

[Doctors] have treated osteomyelitis, phlegmonic angina, furunculosis, erysipelas, the so-called gongoric and articular rheumatism, etc. by this method.

Various reports were presented, some very enthusiastic; on puerperal fever (Peters, Jones, Voorhees), cerebrospinal meningitis (Schirmer), acute mastitis (Cumston), malignant scarlet fever (Crede), various septic processes (Werler), furunculosis (Wolfram) and finally in horse purpura (Dieckerhoff).

My personal experience in septic phlebitis, of which an unusually high percentage occurred in its typhoid cases, was most satisfactory […] In a case of septic phlebitis after amoebic dysentery, the results were almost wonderful.”

Although Wilcox cites decades-old medical records in 1900 of colloidal silver, which was discovered by the scientific world with the advent of Edison’s 1860s-1880s current along with colloidal gold (to which Edison himself refers), biologist Henry Crookes relies on lengthy, painstaking research and even manages to offer personalized prescriptions. He is the first scientist to state that an optimal concentration in therapy is 25ppm. Basically H.Crookes offers a complete solution: a palette of conditions with specific recipes for administration for each individual condition and also a multitude of colloidal silver types plus methods of obtaining it.

This made the following years abound with scholarly writings, some of them even using the methods of obtaining colloidal solutions offered by H.Crookes, among which we mention:

– Dr. William Halstead, one of the founding fathers of modern surgery (pictured), wrote about the infection-fighting qualities of colloidal silver in 1913:

“You may have just scratched the surface of the medical silver shine! It’s already an amazing tool!

Stimulates bone-building cells(STEM n.e.), cures the most stubborn infections of all kinds […] and stimulates healing of skin and other soft tissues.

I don’t know of anything that can take its place, nor have I known anyone who has abandoned it after becoming familiar with its application technique.”

– The medical journal Lancet publishes on 12 Dec 1914 an exhaustive article signed by Dr.W.J.Simpson, Professor of Hygiene at Kings College London and Dr.R.Tanner, University Professor of Bacteriology at University of London, in which the bacteria causing typhoid fever (typhoid bacillus – later known as Salmonella) was immediately destroyed by a solution of colloidal silver.

– The scientist Alfred E. Searle publishes in 1919 the paper entitled “Coloids in Biology and Medicine”

– The National Druggist, August 1920, publishes that silver hydrosols are effective destroyers of toxins of bacterial origin;

– NASA – of the 23 research projects on water purification, chooses it as the most efficient method using a device that generates a 1ppm silver ion solution in water. The same method is also used by the Soviets.

– The US military is conducting secret research on purifying seawater on military ships and converting it to drinking water using pellets impregnated with silver hydrosol, according to documents declassified by the FBI.

Biologist Henry Crookes documents a series of findings in his paper, making astonishing correlations:

– In 1853, Dr. Charles Pravaz, created the world’s first syringe and made it entirely of silver. At the same time other pioneers of medicine used silver rods, drainage tubing and other silver instruments.

– In 1881, Dr Crédé, a German physician, first used silver nitrate to purify the eyes of newborns as a prophylactic method. Subsequently, in the paper published in 1901 entitled Prevention of Ocular Infections and Antiseptics for Internal Use in Newborn Infants, the authors Russell, A.D. and Hugo, W.B. quote Credé as saying that for internal use he recommends pure silver hydrosol as being bioactive and without adverse effects.

– The Swiss botanist Kark Wilhelm von Nägeli (1817 – 1891) who discovered transient cytoblasts, later to be rediscovered by Walther Flemming as chromosomes, demonstrates a profound knowledge of how some metals, such as silver, copper etc. in the form of hydrosol, in which the metals are in extremely fine particulate form act against bacteria and other life forms in similar categories.

– In 1887, Emil Von Behring (winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 1901 for his discovery of physiological serum) explains how silver, pure hydrosol, or compounds (silver nitrate) are effective against typhoid bacilli and Anthrax. The paper has been reprinted: Disinfection, Sterilization and Preservation, Third Edition – Febriger 1983.

The list goes on.

In short, in 1910 colloidal silver was launched as the most brilliant infection-fighting agent.

Three decades later, in 1939 to be exact, 94 products with “silver compounds” made by different owners are listed. The book entitled “Argyria – The Pharmacology of Silver”, written by physician William R. Hill employed by The Williams & Wilkins Company, classifies all colloidal solutions as compounds that can precipitate and cause Argyria. This book, with its role of denigrating pure silver hydrosol – colloidal silver (the action is obvious because all pure colloids – only water and silver – are classified as salts causing Argyria), is the precursor to the appearance of chemical preparations with similar antibacterial effects, sold by the company and which brought them an enormous profit. Moreover, doctors nowadays who use as an argument this work full of medical loop holes regarding the understanding of silver particles or silver ions show the same ignorance and malicious attitude. Of the 94 products only 12 were silver nitrate solutions for external use, solutions used for newborns as an eye antiseptic based on Crédé’s research, the rest were colloidal hydrosols. Silver nitrate is still used today for the same purpose.

It is also worth mentioning the following point: the book records a pro “silver compound” fact, namely that the “explosion” of colloidal silver producers in the US was also due to the wave of tuberculosis during the Great Depression of 1929-1933, and that many took this solution for fear of tuberculosis. Interestingly, social statistics show a phenomenon contrary to expectations: although the economic crisis was extremely harsh, life expectancy increased from 57 years to 63 years overall for a population of 122 million recorded in the US at that time.

With the publication of this book, the FDA issued a notice allowing colloidal silver to continue to be produced because it was a drug until 1939, but without any therapeutic actions attributed to it.

For about 30 years, colloidal silver production has been almost forgotten, as chemical preparations have been gaining momentum.

But in the 1970s, a new generation of researchers rediscovered colloidal silver:

– Dr. E. Henderson, professor of microbiology at Temple University School of Medicine, reported experiments that tested colloidal silver’s ability to block viral production in human T-cell (white cell) lymphocytes. Even at very low doses, colloidal silver dramatically blocked viral production;

– Dr. Carl Moyer – Chairman of the Washington University of Medicine, Department of Surgery notes, “We use silver nitrate for burns although we would prefer equally concentrated forms of silver hydrosol because they are 100% bio accessible – they don’t damage tissue“;

– Biomedical researcher Robert 0. Becker, M.D., of Syracuse University, reported that: “Silver stimulates the growth of bone-forming cells in bone tissue where the area had not healed for long periods of time.” Dr. Becker is the author of The Body Electric and Cross Currents. He is also known for his passion in cell regeneration, experimentally regenerating even amputated frog limbs with positive silver ions. According to Dr Becker, “Positive silver ions have done more than kill disease-causing organisms. They promoted major bone growth and accelerated healing of injured tissues by more than 50%.”

In his research, he discovered cell types that looked exactly like the active bone marrow of children. “These cells grew rapidly,” he wrote, “producing a diverse and surprising assortment of primitive cell forms capable of multiplying at a high rate, then differentiating into the specific cells of an organ or tissue that had been injured, even in patients over fifty years old. This ability solves, if only partially, the main problem of mammalian regeneration.”

Dr. Becker also found that positive silver ions “profoundly stimulate healing of the skin and other soft tissues in a way unlike any known natural process and kill the most stubborn infections of all kinds, including bacteria and fungi around.”

He concluded: “What we actually accomplished was the rediscovery that silver killed bacteria, a fact known for centuries…; when antibiotics were discovered, the clinical uses of silver were considered obsolete. Here’s where its power to amplify (+50%) the cellular regeneration process puts this mineral in an even brighter light.”

– Dr. Joseph Weissman, a board-certified immunologist and assistant clinical professor at the University of California Medical School said, “Today, many antibiotics are losing the fight with germs. This year alone there are more than 13,000 hospitals where patients are infected with bacteria resistant to all antibiotics. Fortunately, the best germ killer, which was discovered over 2,000 years ago, is finally getting the proper attention in medical science – natural silver.”

– Dr. Ron Surowitz, M.D., former head of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association states: “Sometimes a treatment can be worse than the disease, but not in the case of colloidal silver.”;

– Herbert Slavin, M.D., founder and director of the Institute for Advanced Medicine, Lauderhill, Florida argues: “Ionic silver is increasingly recognized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial qualities and the fact that it has virtually none of the side effects associated with antibiotics.”;

– Byron Clinic Board President J. Richards said: “The high efficacy in the use of colloidal silver to neutralize pathogens is not questioned by anyone.”

and last but not least:

– Dr. Jonathan V. Wright, M.D. of the renowned Tahoma Clinic in Washington State said:

“Colloidal silver could be the next germ-fighting drug. And not just for the serious threats that make headlines: it’s also effective against bacterial infections like strep throat, viruses like the flu and fungal infections like Candida.

No matter how much a germ moves, it cannot change enough to escape the effects of colloidal silver. And in the process, silver does not harm human tissues or destroy good bacteria in the gut like antibiotics and other drugs do.

Since the 1970s, several independent researchers have discovered that silver ions easily destroy Candida and other fungi. But until a pilot study in the mid-1990s involving human patients suffering from terminal AIDS, medical researchers had established solid evidence showing how fast and effective silver ion solutions can be in treating Candida and HIV.

In this study, nine people who were near death were divided into two subgroups. One group suffered from HIV and a terrible Candida infection. The other group suffered from both HIV and an extreme form of malnutrition (known as wasting syndrome).

The researchers found that in both groups colloidal silver-rich silver ions were able to kill pathogens and clear the bloodstream of germs to restore the immune system.”

In short, we’re back to nature’s wonderful circle for curing infections and diseases: colloidal silver. Over the years, production methods have evolved. ARGENTUM+ is a solution with extremely small nanoparticles, 2nm, and 98% positively charged silver ions, similar to those used by Dr. O. Becker in his research on cell regeneration.

Nowadays, hundreds of thousands of scientific papers describing the multi-purpose mode of action of silver particles down to the smallest detail can be found in the online media. It has been shown that it is essential that colloidal particles are as tiny as possible, which is why in the modern world researchers use only nanoparticles (below 50nm) to show the germicidal action both directly and in multiple compositions.

Searching the scholar.google.com website for information on the main actions of silver nanoparticles, we see the following results:

  • antimicrobial – 178 thousand results;
  • antibacterial – 154 thousand results;
  • antimicrobial – 27 thousand results (virucidal research is only carried out in certain types of laboratory);
  • antifungal – 36 thousand results;
  • immunity – 41 thousand results;
  • oncological (cancer) – 280 thousand results.
  • silver ions: 2.4 million results !

Even ten research papers would be sufficient to demonstrate that colloidal solutions with silver nanoparticles and positively charged silver ions are therapeutically effective. We conclude the colloidal silver history list with a warning about the future given by Alexander Tomasz, University Professor and Doctor of Medicine, Rockefeller University in New York: “The common bacteria that cause pneumonia, children’s ear infections and many other diseases are evolving into forms untreatable by all known drugs, threatening a frightening post-antibiotic era that is a looming medical disaster.”
